Handshake @ Illinois

Career coaching, events, and jobs & internships

Current Student Log-In

If you are an enrolled undergrad or grad student, a Handshake account was automatically created for you. No need to create a new one! Log in with your NetID and password.

Employer Log-In

If you already have an approved Employer Handshake account, log in here. If you are new to our campus and/or Handshake, please visit Employer Support in the Handshake Help Center to request an account, and the HireIllini.illinois.edu website to learn about recruiting Illinois students.

Other Account Types

Alumni

Were you a registered student in 2017 or later?

You probably already have a Handshake account (even if you haven't used it before). Try to log in to Handshake with your NetID and password if you still have one that works. If not, use this form to get help accessing your alumni account or request an alumni account if you do not have one.

Were you a registered student prior to 2017?

You probably don't have a Handshake account yet. Use this form to request a Handshake alumni account.

Please note that access to some career services events or appointments may be restricted to current or recent students (most colleges restrict to one year post-graduation). Policies do vary depending on the hosting career office. However, there are still plenty of opportunities for alumni in Handshake, including entry-level job search.

Do you want to hire students and other alumni from Illinois?

That's great! You'll need an employer account for your business or organization. Log in as an Employer if you already have an account, or visit our Employer Help menu or Handshake Support for more assistance. Note that you can have both a Student/Alumni and Employer account, and switch between them within Handshake, but the account request processes are different and the accounts are used for different purposes. Log in as a student if you are seeking a job or support. Log in as an employer if you are seeking to hire.

Once you have an employer account, you can post job positions, schedule interviews and information sessions, and more.

Illinois Faculty/Staff

Are you an instructor or advisor who wants to demonstrate Handshake in a class or one-on-one appointment?

Thank you for promoting Handshake and career services. We can set up an account for you that can simulate the student experience. Please find and contact the career services office that is most closely aligned with your college/school/department/office. If you are unsure or none of the subject-specific offices seem to apply, please contact careercenter@illinois.edu.

Do you want to post campus jobs on Handshake?

You'll need an employer account to do that. Because this can get a little complicated since the employer is the University of Illinois, we recommend that you find and contact your career services office, or contact hireillini@illinois.edu, for assistance obtaining an employer account for your department/unit.

Incoming First-Year and Transfer Students

Did you register for class yet? When did you register?

New Handshake accounts are created within approximately 3-5 business days after a student registers for their courses. Thanks for your patience while your account is activated. If it has been more than 5 business days since you registered for classes and you are still unable to log in, please contact hireillini@illinois.edu and we can investigate the status of your account.

Are you a transfer student whose old college/university also used Handshake?

There may be a period after your new Handshake account is activated that your old account is still accessible, and visible to employers. We encourage you to log in to Handshake with your University of Illinois credentials and update that profile to reflect your new, active student status. You may wish to make the old profile private until it is deactivated by Handshake or the previous institution.

Post-Docs

Accounts for post-docs are created once or twice per year (around August and/or January), but if you begin your time at the University between these times and you wish to use Handshake before the next update, please contact the Graduate College Career Development Office (or School of Chemical Sciences if applicable) for assistance.

User Agreements

By logging in to your Handshake @ Illinois account, all users agree to abide by the Handshake @ Illinois User Agreement (pdf).

Employers also agree to follow the University of Illinois campus recruiting guidelines.
